OUR MARES
The CAL mare string is extraordinary. Each broodmare has been chosen carefully or bred for movement, conformation, and breed type. In spring, APSL-eligible foals are available. If you see something special or a foal in-utero that is a "must-have"-please inquire as soon as possible, most are sold before they are weaned. The foals are imprinted from birth, extensively handled, very human oriented and well behaved hand-crafted horses.

Flor D'Atela: APSL registered and revised eight year old mare imported from Portugal. Flor was bred by Coudelaria Bessa de Carvalho, and scored 74.5 on inspection. She is sired by one of the top Grand Prix Lusitano Stallions, Soberano. She is athletic, extremely talented and a top dressage prospect, with exceptional movement. Flor was the Mare Champion of Champions at the ERAHC show in 2016. She was Reserve Champion, level 3: ERAHC working equitation 2016.
Her 2021 buckskin colt, Rocha Azul was just recently put on the market (see our foal page for more details). This super flashy colt has amazing gaits, great conformation and a blue eye. As a coming two year old, he is one to watch!

(RIP) Aqua D'Atela (below): Registered and revised APSL mare imported from Portugal. Aqua was bred by Coudelaria Bessa de Carvalho. Aqua is an elegant mare, with lots of breed type and movement. Her lines are heavily influenced by MV (Veiga).

Haute Tantra, CAL (below). APSL Registered Lusitano Mare: Tantra is out of Caranja (imported Brazilian mare, see below) by Rumbero (imported Portuguese stallion). Tantra is a magnificent mare, Black, 16.2 hands, with fantastic movement. We have one 2016 gelding (Marialva) for sale by Tantra, his sire is Soberano: Champion of Champions at Golega and recommended stallion. Marialva’s full sister scored 76.5 on her adult inspection, the highest scoring mare in the USA in 2019.
Tantra’s grandsire is an outstandingly beautiful black stallion: Nordeste (SS). Nordeste was bred by Mr. Manuel Braga from Sociedade das Silveiras. Before being exported to Brazil from Portugal, he won a number of tests at the Prix St. Georges level in Portugal, before being exported to Brazil.
As a son of Trinco MMT, a stallion bred by Coudelaria Romão Tavares, Nordeste exemplifies the quality sought by the very traditional Portuguese breeder, who is also well-known for their bullfighting animals. Trinco is by the famed Firme SA, one of the best-known stallions in the Lusitano breed. Firme SA sired Novilheiro MV, Opus II MV, Nilo MV, and Neptuno MV, thus becoming the head of the very important Firme/Nilo/Novilheiro lineage.

B-Caranja is a 16+ hand, black APSL registered and revised mare. Caranja is an Interagro mare, bred in Brazil: imported in-utero.
